Year of Osvaldo Licini - Ascoli Piceno & Monte Vidon Corrado - from april 18 to november 4, 2008

Osvaldo LiciniOsvaldo Licini, a painter whose works have the quality of vibrant and visionary poetry, fascinating like an angelic icon rich of symbolic values, passed away on October 11, 1958 in Monte Vidon Corrado (Marche - Italy). An artist who always knew how to reconduct into an European context the strongest call of local roots, of his beloved native land, always at the centre of his artistic career.

The Marche region celebrates the “Year of Osvaldo Licini” with two unforgettable events. One is the monographic exhibition Osvaldo Licini from the Marche to Europe, that takes place in the Polo Culturale di Sant’Agostino, located in a splendid rinascimental cloister in Ascoli Piceno, from April 18 to November 4, 2008.

This exhibition intends to make the point on the master’s painting production by putting together about sixty paintings - in addition to those already present in the gallery - coming from numerous Italian and foreign musuems (among which the Modena National Gallery of Modern Art, Milan Contemporary Art Museum, Ca’ Peasro Gallery of Modern Art, Turin Civic Gallery of Modern Art and the Centre Georges Pompidou), both from private and public collections, selected by the exhibition curators Stefano Papetti, Elena Pontiggia and Enrica Torelli Landini, who have dedicated their studies to Licini for years. A total of more that 100 works, divided according to the different phases of production, put together for the first time, many of which have never been exhibited before.

The second exhibition dedicated to Licini is called, Osvaldo Licini from Monte Vidon Corrado. The Landscape Season: Paintings, drawings, letters and takes place at the Centro Studi Osvaldo Licini, in Monte Vidon Corrado, from april 18 to november 4, 2008, focusing particularly on Licini’s first works, delving for the first time also into the emotional and most private themes that had an important cultural influence on his works. Exhibited here are documents, photographs and paintings centering on both human and natural landscapes created by the Master mainly at the beginning of his career, during his figurative period.
The exhibition curators: Daniela Simoni, Elena Pontiggia and Enrica Torelli Landini.

The painter’s house itself (where Licini’s only two frescos are conserved) will be open to guided visits, displaying settings reconstructed through pictures and tales of that time. A kind of musuem-house where to find traces of his work and maybe discover unknown aspects.
